Selma Housing Authority

Overview

The Selma Housing Authority manages several housing programs including Public Housing, Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, both funded by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Working with our Community Partners, Resident Council & Resident Advisory Board, we offer supportive services programs to educate & enhance the life of our Residents. Our goal is to assist each Resident to work toward sustainability.

Affordable housing in Selma and elsewhere means wither rental or owner-occupied housing that costs at or less than 30% of one’s gross income. Subsidized housing means a residence that the government assists in paying for. It can either be all or a portion of the monthly payment, depending on the person’s income.

Challenges

Under the guidance of a new and innovative President and CEO, Mr. Kennard Randolph reached out to Kmarks Web & Computer Solution in need of a revitalized brand identity. He charged us with creating design that spoke to changes that were coming to the Selma Housing Authority (SHA), while keep with the rich and history legacy of Selma, Alabama.   He included in his request redesign and development of the SHA website and creation of SHA Tenant App.

In our research we quickly realized a standardize website has been created for Housing Authority across the local region and it was our challenge to break the trends of the common user interface.

Solutions

This groundbreaking new design is setting the standards for Housing Authority website development.  The site integrates office used finance application allow tenants to pay rent, create work order for need repairs, and update records with a need to visit the housing authority main office.

Our team developed SHA Tenant App which increased tenant and property managers’ communication.  Providing emergency alert and event notification to all participating tenants.

As a result of the creative designs and developments the Selma Housing Authority was awarded the 2021 Website of the Year by Alabama Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities and the 2022 Extra Large PHA Website of the Year by Southeastern Regional Council (SERC) – National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
